We specialize in cremation scattering ceremonies on water, offering a peaceful and scenic setting for a meaningful goodbye.
At Scattered at Sea, we understand how difficult it is to say goodbye to a loved one. That’s why each of our celebration of life ceremonies are thoughtfully planned to offer you peace, comfort, and a sense of closure.
Whether you choose to scatter all or just a portion of your loved one’s ashes, we are here to create a meaningful experience that honours their memory with care.
Our ceremonies take place in a private, scenic setting on Lake Ontario in Stoney Creek, aboard our spacious and comfortable pontoon boat.
From quiet moments of reflection to intimate gatherings with family and friends, we are here to help you create a cherished memory that lasts a lifetime.
With rising funeral and cemetery costs, our celebration of life ceremonies are designed to provide an affordable way to honour your loved one.
Even if your loved one has a final resting place in a cemetery, a scattering at sea offers a separate, meaningful, and affordable way to gather with family and friends.
Located along the peaceful shores of Stoney Creek, Newport Yacht Club is the ideal departure point for Celebration of Life scattering ceremonies. The waters here are known for their clarity, offering a scenic and serene setting that stands apart from other parts of Lake Ontario.
Unlike public marinas that are often crowded and noisy, this private marina provides a quiet, intimate space—free from the distractions of heavy boat traffic and large gatherings.
With its convenient location and ample free parking, Newport Yacht Club makes it easy for you and your family to arrive comfortably and focus on what matters most.
Capacity: 9 Passengers
At Scattered at Sea, passenger safety is our highest priority. Our comfortable pontoon boat is designed with accessibility in mind, featuring easy entry and exit for passengers of all ages and mobility levels, including those using wheelchairs. Our 21-foot pontoon boat offers a smooth, quiet ride, providing a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all passengers.
Fully compliant with Transport Canada’s safety regulations, our pontoon boat is fully equipped with certified safety gear to ensure everyone on board has a safe journey.
Before your journey, we will work closely with you to discuss any personalized touches you’d like to include and ensure all ceremonial details are in place.
You will receive clear instructions on where to meet, what to bring, and how to prepare for the experience.
Upon arrival at the Newport Yacht Club, you will be greeted by your captain at the designated meeting spot.
Assistance will be provided when boarding the boat to ensure everyone is comfortably settled in before departure.
Before setting sail, your captain will provide a safety orientation to familiarize you with the boat’s amenities and safety procedures. We kindly ask all passengers to review and sign a waiver confirming their understanding of the safety guidelines.
The journey begins with a 30-minute peaceful cruise along Lake Ontario, providing time for reflection and a chance to take in the serene surroundings.
Upon reaching the designated scattering location on Lake Ontario, the boat will be carefully positioned to create a peaceful setting for the ceremony.
Before the scattering ceremony begins, we invite families to share stories, prayers, or eulogies in honour of their loved one. To help create a meaningful and peaceful atmosphere, calming music or a favourite song can be played through the boat’s Bluetooth speakers, making the moment even more personal and memorable.
There are two ways to scatter your loved one’s ashes, allowing you to choose the method that feels most comfortable for you.
The first option is to open the cremation container and scatter the ashes directly on the water, allowing the winds and waters to gently carry them away in a natural and intimate way.
The second option is using a biodegradable urn. This environmentally friendly choice ensures that the urn will naturally break down over time, allowing the ashes to blend seamlessly with the water.
After the ceremony, the return journey to the marina will be taken at a gentle pace, offering time for quiet reflection.

- Rescheduling seven (7) days or more in advance from the ceremony date: You may reschedule at no additional cost. We will work with you to find a new date that fits your needs.

For comfort and safety, we recommend dressing in layers, as weather conditions can change quickly on the water. Even on warmer days, it’s a good idea to bring a light jacket or sweater.
Flat, non-slip shoes—such as sneakers or boat shoes are ideal for stability while aboard. If your ceremony is during the day, be sure to bring sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun.
If we anticipate unsafe weather, such as high winds or rain, we will notify you as soon as possible. We closely monitor weather conditions and prioritize safety in our decision-making. If necessary, we will offer alternative dates and times that work with your schedule.
To ensure a safe and comfortable experience, food and alcoholic beverages are not permitted on the boat. However, complimentary bottled water will be provided. After your scattering ceremony, you’re welcome to continue the celebration just minutes away at Edgewater Manor Restaurant in Stoney Creek. Overlooking Lake Ontario, this elegant spot offers delicious food, fine drinks, and a peaceful waterfront atmosphere to gather with loved ones.
Yes, we understand how important pets are to our families and we are honoured to help you say goodbye in a meaningful way. You are welcome to scatter your pet’s ashes during the ceremony, alongside or separately from your loved one. Our serene setting on the water provides a peaceful space to honour all who have touched your life, both human and animal alike. We will ensure that the ceremony is conducted with the same level of care, respect and dignity.
